Imphal, December 27 2013 :
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today recalled the organic link shared between Khoupum village of Langthabal and Khoupum Valley of Tamenglong district.
Speaking at the inaugural function of a newly constructed community hall at Khoupum village, Gaikhangam said that Kabuis (Rongmeis) settled at Khoupum village originated from Khoupum Valley of Tamenglong district.
They came to the village even before Langthabal was made capital of Manipur kingdom.
As an unavoidable practice, a village of hill people, particularly Kabuis was set up around the place where the king intended to build his capital.
The king would build the capital at the selected place only when the newly established village turned out prosperous without much unnatural death.
In the same manner, the Kabui villages of Mahabali and Ramji were set up.
Noting the striking similarities between traditional dance and music shown at the inaugural function with those of Khoupum Valley, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the function touched his sentiments for he himself hailed from Khoupum (Tamenglong) .
Manipur is home to different communities and it is this diversity in terms of culture, ethnicity and language which makes Manipur a beautiful land.
Noting the growing need for community halls in each and every locality, Gaikhangam conveyed gratitude to local MLA Karam Shyam for constructing the Khoupum community hall from his MLA Local Area Development Fund.
Chairs and plastic water storage tanks would be given for the community through TD Department.
MLA K Shyam, Lok Jana Shakti Party Langthabal AC president Agui Panmei, Langthabal Khoupum Luplakpa Golmei Poudetchung Kabui and Tamenglong ADC Chairman G Soihen Haomei were also present at the function.
MLA Shyam said that a film city would be developed at a suitable site within Langthabal AC.
For this, a project of Rs 28 crore has been submitted to the 14th Finance Commission.
A DPR for developing an eco-park at Chajing community tank and the nearby hillock at the cost of Rs 23 lakh has also been submitted to the relevant authority.
Although there are four water supply plants within Langthabal AC, people are still unable to enjoy the benefits of these plants fully.
Counting the community hall inaugurated today, altogether four community halls were constructed at the cost of Rs 53 lakh and two more such halls are in the pipeline, Shyam said.
