One BIPL official told The Sangai Express that the road construction work would be completed within five and seven days.
Even though construction of the new road has started today from one end, no construction work could be taken up from the other end as the families whose houses would be affected requested BIPL to wait till tomorrow.
As such, construction of the new stretch will kick off in full gear from both ends from tomorrow, said the BIPL official.
Meanwhile, one PWD (NH Division) official informed that a first batch of seven houses which would be affected by construction of the new road have been identified.
As the new road would be constructed by cutting the adjoining hill slope, other houses may also be affected in case there is landslide.
Even though the highway has been cut off, there would not any shortage of fuel in the State.
According to information received from IOCL's Imphal based State Level Coordinator, there are five days stock of LPG, 20 days stock of petrol and 30 days stock of diesel.
With the Imphal-Mao section of NH 2 cut off at Khongnem Thana, the State Government would hold a meeting tomorrow and discuss about transporting petroleum and petroleum products along Imphal-Jiribam highway, said the State Level Coordinator.
