School Amalgamation Being Done To Bring Quality Education: Minister Radheshyam

Imphal, February 25 2020: On the eight day of the ongoing tenth session of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly, Education Minister Th Radheshyam said that his department is amalgamating government schools from time to time for bringing efficiency in teacher-student ratio to increase the enrolment of students in government schools.

While replying to a question raised by Opposition MLA K Meghachandra Singh, he further stated that there is no violation to the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009 in amalgamating schools as the sole purpose is to bring good and quality education scenario in the state.

Responding to another question raised by MLAs Alfred Kangam Arthur and Shri O Surjakumar, Radheshyam also said that all the teacher recruitment processes in the state is being done in accordance with the guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) .

The department has initiated drafting of a new education policy in the state, and a consultative meeting was held on 19th July last year at the City Convention Centre with all the stakeholders.

On the other hand, YAS Minister Letpao Haokip said that his department has taken up 11 numbers of works, of which five works were taken up in 2017 and another six in the year 2018.He added that under the Khelo India Scheme, a total of 32 sports developmental projects have been proposed for approval to the Centre.

This distribution was done one the pattern of every two projects for each district of Manipur.

The Sports Minister further stated criteria for taking up projects differs from hill to valley areas.

However, it is the nature of work and the availability of funds that ensures the green signal for a project.

Meanwhile, MLA K Meghachandra Singh drew the attention of all the House members on the ongoing anti-CAA protests in New Delhi where he stressed on the urgent need to provide safety to the students, especially from NE region.
