Ukhrul, April 23 2020:
Tension is running high at Kashung Bungdung area at Kasom Khullen of Kamjong district at the border after additional number of Assam Rifles personnel were rushed there.
Alarmed by the huge arrival of the security personnel, a large number of womenfolk gathered and prevented the entry of AR troops into the village today.
According to reports, the situation in the area has been tense and the villagers are growing apprehensive and uneasy over the presence of a large number of Assam Rifles troops since the arrival of additional security forces from different battalions of the State.
It is reported that the border region is frequented by underground groups and armed confrontation could break out if the security forces proceed towards the extreme border villages.
The womenfolk numbering around 300 have stationed themselves at Bungdung village to prevent the entry of AR troops in order avert any possible armed confrontation in the border region under Kasom Khullen of Kamjong district.
The villagers informed that the AR authority has not disclosed the reasons and the purpose for deploying additional security forces in the region but only cited security exploration or normal combing operation at the villages along the border area.
It was reported that AR troops have started returning from the village to their AR outpost at Kashung at 7 pm but this has not calmed down the villagers as they are still apprehensive that the troops might return anytime with more number, leaving them uneasy and in a panicky state.
