Imphal, April 22 2013:
Following the cease-work strike launched by oil tanker drivers in protest against abduction of a colleague from Kohima, all operations at IOC's Chingmeirong oil depot have come to a grinding halt.
With the oil depot not working, all oil pumps of Imphal remained shut today.
Information received from the North East Integrated Sales Office, Imphal said that the existing stocks of petrol, diesel and kerosene including standing TTs would last 13 days, 15 days and 21 days respectively.
There is a stock of 80 metric tonnes of LPG at Sekmai bottling plant and this can cater to the requirements of consumers for eight days.
Coupled with the total highway bandh called by AZSU, ZYF and ZSUM, the cease-work strike launched by oil tanker drivers has resulted in shortage of fuel oils at Imphal.
Nevertheless, CAF&PD Minister M Okendro claimed that the State Government has been working to resolve these problems.
While appealing to call off the bandh being imposed on National Highways, Okendro informed that the State Government has been communicating with the Government of Nagaland regarding abduction of a driver from Kohima.
Maintaining that there are adequate stocks of fuel oils, he also appealed to the people not to indulge in panic buying of petroleum products.
Meanwhile, CRPF personnel are guarding the oil taker whose driver has been reportedly abducted.
CRPF officers are also confused how the driver was abducted when the convoy of oil tankers and LPG bullets was moving with escorts without any stoppage
in between.
Despite the confusion, CRPF has lodged an FIR with Kohima Police today, informed a source.
