Imphal, December 19 2013:
With a view to develop Govindajee Janmasthan of Kaina as a tourist circuit so as to attract more tourists and pilgrims alike, Chief Minister O Ibobi made a spot assessment of the site this afternoon.
He also visited Kheba Hills of Khongjom where the State Government is planning to develop a mega tourism project.
The team led by the Chief Minister included Padmasree Ratan Thiyam, Padmasree Aribam Syam, former PWD Chief Engineer E Binoykumar, Art and Culture Commissioner Dr RK Nimai and top officials of MDS.
Interacting with MLA Th Shyamkumar and local people there, tourists/pilgrims coming from outside the State are not satisfied by visiting Govindajee Temple at Palace Compound alone.
They also wished to Kaina.
That is why, the State Government is planning to develop Kaina as an attractive tourist site.

The Government would not simply browbeat its way but would take due consideration of people's opinions.
He claimed that the Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned necessary fund for the Kaina project.
Compound fence, entrance gate and parking lot would be developed first on priority basis, stated the Chief Minister who is also in charge of Tourism Department.
Construction of another temple in addition to the existing one simply because someone donated it would diminish the aura commanded by the pilgrimage site.
It is also desirable to keep a single mandap neat and clear instead of the existing two.
For the party who would look after the temple which happens to Pangambam clan, a house may be built for them inside the temple complex, Ibobi stated.
The Chief Minister and his companions then headed to Kheba Hills.
Although Manipur is said to have many potential tourist sites of which Kangkhui Cave located just 11 Kms away from Ukhrul district headquarters is one of them, local as well as non-local visitors do not wish to come back for a second visit to the cave because of the tortuous condition of the road leading to the cave.
The cave has its own historical significance.
It was inside this cave that a large number of people from the surrounding villages took refuge when Japanese troops reached the area during the Second World War.
A considerable number of people visit the cave every year but the deplorable condition of the road has turned out to be a serious detrimental factor.
Moreover, there is no decent place for accommodation.
To visit the cave, one can go with any villager of Kangkhui and they are really helpful.
