Imphal, November 18 2021:
Members of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) detained at least 62 non-locals for not possessing ILP passes from Khwai-ramband Keithel today and handed them over to police.
Reportedly, the JCILPS checked the permits of around 150 non-locals during its drive at the bazar areas today, during which about 70 persons were detained for furnishing invalid ILP permits.
Briefing the media at the spot, JCILPS convenor BK Moirangcha stated that the committee carried out the drive after receiving reports of many non-locals staying in the State without ILPS pass/ permit.
Saying that the drive will continue till November 30 in Imphal areas, he added that the drive will also be carried out in other districts too.

Claiming that non-locals have been entering the State via the Imphal-Dimapur road even without the ILP pass, BK Moirangcha asked what the officials have been doing at the ILPS counters.
Urging all the non-locals staying in the State to always carry their permits and the persons renting rooms to verify whether the tenants in their places have valid ILP pass or not, he added that necessary actions will also be taken up against landlords renting rooms to non-local people who do not possess ILP passes.
Notably, following an order passed by the President of India, Inner Line Permit System was introduced in Manipur on December 11, 2019 under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873 after years of intense mass agitation.
