Security has been tightened to prevent occurrences of unwanted events in view of the 16 day National Highways bandh called by the Apunba Lup in connection with agitation to demand complete removal of AFSPA from Manipur.
The conglomerate of 32 organizations, Apunba Lup has given the bandh call along both NH 39 and53 and will come into force from September 19 midnight.
"We would not allow the agitation supporters to come out and foil passage of vehicles along the two highways," said DGP AK Parashar while adding that stringent action would be taken against anybody found blocking normal traffic.
FIR cases would be registered against bandh supporters found disrupting traffic, the police chief maintained.
Informing that no special security meeting has been convened on the matter, the DGP nevertheless asserted of normal meetings being held to oversee whole security scenario.
On the other hand DIG PM Goud, who is in charge of three districts including Senapati and Tamenglong told The Sangai Express that all police stations along the two highways have been instructed to maintain strict vigil particularly at Senapati district areas.
In addition to State force, Central security forces including the Assam Rifles and CRPF have already been stationed at vulnerable locations along the highways to prevent any untoward incident, the DIG added.
Since most vehicles ply on the NH 39 five platoons of State security forces have been demanded for additional security deployment on the said route, contended the police official.
To take stock of security situation in connection with the bandh call a meeting has been convened at Motbung today with Senapati district SP and higher officials of Central forces, Goud added.
He also disclosed of measures to deploy security personnel at Motbung area in adequate strength during the bandh period as the area is more vulnerable that other places.
It is worth mentioning that in connection with the ongoing agitation to demand scraping of AFSPA from the entire State educational institutions remained closed from yesterday.
