Imphal, November 16 2014 :
With the Manipur Sangai Festival 2014 approaching fast, repairing and beautification works of Tiddim Road, Thumbuthong, Hapta Kangjeibung etc have been stepped up.
Chief Minister O Ibobi today went around and inspected the beautification and repairing works.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Works Minister Kh Ratankumar, PHED Minister I Hemochandra and other officials on his inspection tour.
Black-topping of some major roads of Imphal city and white-washing/painting of road medians are going on at a hectic pace.
As construction of the new Sanjenthong bridge could not be completed, the approach roads of Minuthong, Thumbuthong, Loklaobung and Singjamei bridges are being repaired and black-topped.
In the process of expanding roads ahead of the Sangai festival, many trees growing on the road sides have been cut down.
On account of blocking sections of different roads for repairing/black-topping, traffic congestion has become a common sight in different parts of Imphal.

A considerable number of labourers are also being engaged in the development/beautification work of Hapta Kangjeibung.
Necessary preparations for lighting roads leading to the main venues of the festival have also started at a hectic pace.
Many foreign delegations are expected to take part in this edition of Sangai festival which would feature different indigenous cuisines, decorative articles and ornaments, dance and music, games and sports etc.
A 38 member team from Chin State of Myanmar including officials is set to arrive here on November 20 for the festival.
Although Tiddim Road which connects the capital city to Tulihal airport is being developed on a war-footing, it is doubtful that the road development work can be completed before the commencement of the festival.
Medians are being painted fresh and flags have been put along all major roads to create a festive atmosphere.
Coupled with the hectic preparations, security measures have been beefed up in and around Imphal city.
