NSA set on Pradhan, sent to jail

Imphal, July 14 2011:
Elangbam ongbi Rajni (45) wife of Rajen, the Pradhan of Hiyanglam Gram Panchayat under Kakching Police Station was sent to the jail after invoking National Security Act (NSA) after she was produced before the CJM Court, Thoubal.
Pradhan Rajni was apprehended by Kakching Police on July 5 following a case registered against her by job card holders of the GP alleging her of misappropriating huge amount of MGNREGS and instead extending financial assistance to UG groups.
SDPO, Kakching AG Sharma investigated the case and produced her in the Civil Court on the same day in which she was remanded to police custody for six days.
She was next produced in the court on July 11 and the court further remanded her in police custody for four days for further investigation.
Family members of the Pradhan and around 30 local people of her locality waited for the decision of the court outside the court.
There have been incidents of locals protesting against the arrest of the Pradhan and organizing rallies demanding her immediate release, women police were deployed outside the court chamber along with other police personnel to prevent any untoward incidents taking place in case the decision of the court went against the Pradhan.
Meanwhile, Pradhan Rajni who was in the dock during the trial collapsed when the Chief Judicial Magistrate Memcha pronounced the decision that she will be detained under the National Security Act and will be sent to jail.
Family members and women police personnel immediately rushed to administer first aid.
She was then rushed to Thoubal District Hospital.
Local members outside the court premises shouted slogans demanded to be arrested along with the Pradhan.
