Mobs continue to run riot on Highway

Kangpokpi, May 11 2023:
Despite the claim of Imphal and Delhi that Manipur is slowly limping back to normalcy, incidents of violence continue to surface at various places in the State.
In Kangpokpi district, huge mobs brought back scenes of burning tyres in the middle of the road along National Highway-2 today.
Engaging with goods trucks who were heading towards Imphal, the mobs blocked the stretch of National Highway from Kangpokpi town to Motbung towards Imphal and from Kangpokpi town to Taphou Kuki towards Dimapur with logs, burning tyres and stones.
The irate mobs at Kangpokpi town also burnt down a car along the highway near downtown IT Road around noon aside from engaging in blocking the highway by piling up stones and logs at various locations.
Similar blockades along the National Highway were witnessed at Hengbung and South Changoubung upto Kangpokpi town.
Likewise, blockades were carried out at Keithelmanbi, Leikop.
Saparmeina and Motbung village along the Imphal-Dimapur Road between Kangpokpi town and Motbung.
Blockade volunteers were reportedly transported via Shaktiman, DI Tata and autos in bulk at various locations and most of them were seen carrying catapults.
Meanwhile; a reliable source has informed that trucks laden with essential commodities have headed back towards Dimapur after facing the agitating mobs from Hengbung village.
Despite the intense violence and agitation, no untoward incident has been reported till evening.
