Imphal, January 11 2013:
In a serious goof-up, BA First Year, first semester exam for Education subject was held in the morning though the same exam was supposed to be conducted in the afternoon thereby causing serious inconveniences to students.
The bizarre incident occured at Standard College, Kongba today.
Taking strong exception to this clumsy blunder, DESAM has demanded befitting action against those officials responsible for conducting the exam in the morning without following the exam schedule.
The student body has also demanded resignation of the examination authority officials of Manipur University.
It further urged the authority concerned to conduct BA First Year, first semester exam for Education subject anew.
Speaking to media persons at their office today, DESAM general secretary A Thoithoi said that students in the State are enduring lot of difficulties every now and then on account of irresponsibility on the part of education related officials.
When MU issued exam schedule for BA First Year, first semester in October last year, examination for Education subject should be held on January 8 .
The exam schedule was changed by another notice issued on November 18 .
According to the second schedule, exam for Education subject should be held in the morning of January 11 .
Again the exam schedule was changed for the third time on November 24.By this latest schedule, exam for Education subject was put in the afternoon of January 11 .
Such frequent change of exam schedule caused lot of inconveniences and confusion to students, Thoithoi said.
According to the MU notification, today's exam for Education subject should be conducted in the afternoon but at Standard College, the same exam was conducted in the morning.
Because of this sudden change in exam schedule, only 169 students appeared in the exam out of 182 students who should be appearing the exam.
Another college too prepared to conduct the same exam in the morning but it was aborted only after seeing the question paper where the word 'afternoon' was written clearly.
If existing officials cannot conduct examinations according to schedules, it would be better if they resign and hand over their post to capable officials.
Moreover, necessary actions should be initiated against officials of Standard College for conducting the exam in the morning which according to schedule should be held in the afternoon.
The same examination for Education subject should be re-scheduled and held anew, Thoithoi demanded.
