District level Police training on HT and child protection held in Noney and Kangkhopi

FXB India Suraksha in association with Heuristic and Enhanced Action for Life (HEAL) and district Police of Noney and Kangpokpi organized a one day training programme on 8th and 9th December, 2020 in both the districts respectively.
The training programme was on strengthening Police responses in handling cases of Human Trafficking and child protection systems.The main objective of the programme was to train the Police officers on the existing laws and strengthening their mechanisms to ensure protection and safety of the children as well combating trafficking of persons.
A total of 28 and 34 Police officers participated during the training programme in Noney and Kangpokpi respectively.
The programme was conducted as part of project Mukti-an Anti Trafficking initiative to combat human trafficking and child sexual abuse in Manipur implemented with the support of ECPAT Luxembourg.
Mr A Wungreiso Shangh, Project Officer, FXB India Suraksha, Ukhrul and Mr Sunil Khoinaijam Meitei, Project Officer, Imphal were resource persons for both the programmes.
Mr Samir (MPS), Addl Superintendent of Police, Noney and Mr L Misao (MPS), Addl Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi were the chief guests of the respective programmes.
Mr A Wungreiso Shangh spoke about the provisions and role of police as mentioned in the rulesof Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 .
He also discussed about various crime against children specially child sexual abuse at length during both the training programmes.
Mr Sunil Khoinaijam Meitei spoke about various concepts related to human trafficking.
He apart from discussing sections especially section 370 of the Indian Penal Code that defines trafficking in persons also spoke about the steps to be taken to combat the organized crime.
The training also involved screening of short movies related to the training topics for better understanding of the participants.
Also, a pre and post tests were conducted to assess the knowledge of the police officers on the training topics.
In his concluding speech Mr Samir (MPS), Addl Superintendent of Police, Noney stressed upon the need of such training for enhancing knowledge as well as building their capacities.
He said, "This kind of training is needed every half yearly, is very relevant as Noney is located in the National highway and is very vulnerable to organized form of crimes" .
Having similar thoughts, Mr L Misao (MPS), Addl Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi shared, "This is a learning experience and reminder for all the police official, looking forward to more such programmes in the future" .
FXB India Suraksha has been implementing Project Mukti since 2015 and at present is implementing Phase II of the project.
Till date the project has been able to train around 500 law enforcement agencies.
A series of such training programs are planned to take place in other districts of Manipur.
