Arrest and detention of Sotinkumar : MHRC issues notice to DG

Acting on a complaint filed by Th Bedamani Devi, wife of L Sotinkumar, who has been arrested and has been in detention since the all India general strike called by the Left parties on December 19, the Manipur Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the DGP of the State police to submit all relevant copies of the FIRs lodged against the detenue on or before January 28 .
The Health Director and Director of JNIMS have also been asked to furnish detailed reports on the health conditions and treatment provided to L Sotinkumar within two weeks.
In her petition to the MHRC, Th Bedamani urged the Commission to ask the DGP to revoke all the FIRs lodged against Sotinkumar and added that after her husband was released by the CJM, Imphal West on December 21, he was rearrested by Nambol police on another FIR.
Bedamani also alleged in her petition that her husband overheard a conversation amongst the police personnel conspiring to register a case so that he can be detained further.
Thereafter two more FIRs were registered in connection with the general strike called by the Left parties on December 19. The complaint further said that L Sotinkumar suffers from multiple health problems such as chronic, unstable blood pressure, fatty liver, is a diabetic and has kidney problems, which require constant medical attention.
After hearing the submission, MHRC registered a case under Section 12 of Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 .
