Imphal, December 09 2009:
Three politicians including former Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr S Dhananjoy and former Transport and Science & Technology Minister Soram Natum have joined
Manipur People's Party (MPP) .
The third person is Yurembam Iboyaima who has contested in election many a times on Indian National Congress (S) ticket from Singjamei Assembly Constituency.
Along with giving his approval to the joining, MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang has expressed confidence that entry of the three politicians would help in strengthening the position of MPP while addressing a press conference in the party here this afternoon.
Admitting that MPP alone would not be able to ensure a Congress led Government does not return to power after the Assembly election to be held in 2012, Dr Nimaichand said that there is the need for a new Government formation of the MPP and other like minded parties.
So to bring about a political change in Manipur, joint efforts should be started from the upcoming by-election to the Yaiskul Assembly onwards.
He further said that since MPP has a major role to play in bringing about the desired political change in the State, strengthening the position of the party is essential.
Joining the three noted politicians is the first phase of the strategy to consolidate the position of MPP.
Newly inducted Dr Dhananjoy, who was also present during the press conference, while noting that Manipur is State with many big issues inspite of its minuscule size, contended that he decided to come to the fold of MPP as he strongly believes that no other political parties other than MPP can work for the welfare of the people and bring the much aspired political change in the State.
Natum also asserted that he joined MPP so that he can contribute atleast something to the people independently.
Joining other National parties would meant waiting for the approval of the high command.
Joining MPP which has been given birth from the soil of the land would definitely help in understanding the aspiration of the people and work according to the wishes of the people, he maintained.
Yurembam Iboyaima observed that he joined MPP as he has faith in the leadership of Dr Nimaichand Luwang.
Being a regional party, MPP would also give more scope for working independently, he added.
