All party body to rope in experts

The 15-member all-party committee on ILPS has decided to seek opinions from legal experts, intellectuals and academicians before putting forward the issue to the Centre.
Speaking to reporters at Old Secretariat after the first meeting of the committee, Deputy Chief Minister and Committee Chairman Gaikhangam said that the committee decided to invite a two numbers of three-member expert panels, one each from All Manipur Bar Association and High Court Bar Association to assist the committee on legal matters.
Informing the media that the meeting also resolved to consult academicians of Manipur University on the issue, Gaikhangam also invited written opinions from retired High Court Judges.
The committee would also meet the the retired Judges after receiving their written opinions, he added.
Saying that Supreme Court Constitutional experts would be consulted if needed, Gaikhangam added that the issue would be discussed with members of JCILPS as well.
The Deputy Chief Minister further said that following a request from the committee, Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Lokeshore had assured them to provide a room along with the necessary infrastructure and staff for the committee in Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
The next meeting of the committee will be held there, he added.
The committee was formed in an all political party meeting held at Chief Minister's Secretariat on August 6 with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi in the chair.
