Security Advisor puts death toll so far at 65

Security Advisor to the Manipur Government Kuldiep Singh has informed that about 35,000 people were displaced in the violence which broke out since May 3 and added that out of the total 20,000 have already been evacuated to secure sites.
Addressing a press conference at the Chief Minister's Secretariat today, Kuldiep Singh continued that the remaining occupants of the relief camps at sensitive areas such as Imphal, Churachandpur and Moreh will also be evacuated within two to three days.
Saying that Army, paramilitary force and the State police have already been pressed into service for the evacuations works and to restore normalcy by initiating flag march, area dominations etc, the Security Advisor maintained that rounds of meeting with civil society organisations have also been convened to de-escalate the volatile situation.

To a query, Kuldiep Singh responded that 65 people have been killed in the violence so far of which 37 have been identified.
There was no report of casualty in the last 24 hours, he added.
Further stating that 208 FIRs have been registered at different police stations, the Security Advisor to the Government continued that a search operation is underway to book the miscreants involved in the cases.
26 people have been arrested so far, he informed.
About the snatching of weapons from police stations, he said that 192 guns have been recovered.
To another query, Kuldiep said that he hasn't received the break-ups of the people killed and the violence reported as of yet.
The value of the properties damaged has also not been assessed, he added.
