12 hrs tribal areas bandh total

The 12 hrs bandh jointly called by the Outer Manipur Tribal Forum (OMTF) and Joint Action Committee Against Anti-Tribal Bills (JAC-AATB) in all tribal areas of the State was strictly enforced along Imphal-Dimapur road in Sadar Hills by different Thadou bodies today.
The bandh came into force 6 am to show resentment and displeasure to the Government of Manipur for its alleged “indifferent attitude” towards the tribal community of Manipur.
No passenger vehicles were on the road today due to the bandh while normal life in the district was affected.
Volunteers of the Thadou bodies were seen burning tyres along National Highway 2 near Gamgiphai.
However, no untoward incident has been reported till the time of filing this report.
At Churachandpur the bandh was total and it passed off peacefully with no report of violence or other extreme activities.
The bandh was total in the town area but there were sparse activities in the peripheral area.
Passenger vehicles also plied till Tuibuong market.
Meanwhile the Joint Action Committee Against Anti-Tribal Bills (JAC-AATB) has expressed its gratitude and appreciation to all the tribal people of the State for their positive response to the general strike jointly called by them and OMTF.
The JAC-AATB said that the general strike was total at Senapati, Sadar Hills, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel, Churachandpur and other tribal areas.
The positive response to the general strike was against the remorseless anti-tribal stand of the valley community as well as the communal Government of Manipur, alleged the JAC-AATB in a statement and added that this was manifested in the passing of the three Bills last yea and the demand for inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe list.
The JAC-AATB and the OMTF are committed to continuing their stand against the divisive anti-tribal policies which are detrimental to the tribal people, added the statement.
