Chennai, August 07:
Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said there would be "no rethinking" on the part of the Government on the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act whose withdrawal has been demanded by several social and civil organizations in Manipur.
There is no question of any re-thinking on this, he told reporters on the sidelines of a function at the Heavy Vehicles Factory.
Mukherjee said a Court Of Inquiry had already been ordered into the rape and murder of Manorama Devi, allegedly by Assam Rifles personnel in Manipur on July 10, and that whoever was guilty will be punished.
He said discussions were held with the Manipur Chief Minister.
As per law, those found guilty would be punished.
Continuing agitation for the sake of one unfortunate incident is not good.
This is our appeal to the people of Manipur.
