Imphal, May 06 2013:
Protesting against the alleged misplaced policies of the incumbent Congress Government, MPP today blamed Congress party for turning Manipur into a lawless State.
Speaking by the sidelines of a protest demonstration organised by MPP Youth Front at their office, party president N Sovakiran said that Manipur, which was once described by Jawaharlal Nehru as the land of jewels, has been transformed into a land of corruption, crimes and widows.
Notwithstanding the myriad problems plaguing the State, the incumbent Government has been playing hide and seek, and as a result there is no semblance of governance, Sovakiran said.
MPP advisor O Joy decried that police personnel were found involved in many criminal or unlawful activities.
Saying that there is an urgent need to streamline the Police Department, O Joy remarked that Manipur has become a land of black markets and drug smuggling.
Questioning why the Ministers were furious when people demanded the Government to arrest drug smugglers, Joy wondered if the drug smugglers are being protected because they happen to be relatives of the Ministers.
With the involvement of police personnel in drug smuggling and many other criminal activities, Congress Government has transformed Manipur into a lawless State.
"It is against this worrisome transformation that we are protesting today", Joy said.
Dr L Chandramani, another advisor of the party, observed that the Congress Government exposed its weakness when rice meant for poor people is wasted instead of delivering them to the targeted sections.
For all its misplaced policies and failures, people need to topple the incumbent Government, he added.
