Following a formal intimation from the Home Department of the State Government to the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup that Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil would like to meet delegates of the Lup and discuss the demand of the people, a meeting of the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup will be held tomorrow to discuss the Government's overtures.
Informing this, the Apunba Lup in a statement said that the meeting will discuss the invitation of the Government minutely keeping in mind the interest and aspirations of the people of Manipur.
The State Government and the Centre should however create a conducive atmosphere for any dialogue to go ahead, said the Lup adding that the police should stop arresting the leaders spearheading the agitation.
The invitation of the Government which was handed through the Editors' Forum Manipur was issued today morning by the Joint Secretary (Home), Th Chittaranjan.
Inviting the leaders of the Apunba Lup to the negotiating table, the Govt intimation said that the Union Home Minister during his visit to the State on September 5 would like to meet delegates of the Apunba Lup during a meeting scheduled to be held at the Raj Bhawan at 12.30 pm on September 5.Meanwhile, in connection with the upcoming visit of the Union Home Minister to the State, the State Govt has today appealed to all the leaders of the various organizations spearheading the present agitation to come forward and hold talks with the Union Minister to bring about normalcy in the State.
In a statement, spokesman of the SPF Govt, Gaikhangam said the people should use this opportunity to air their grievances and also highlight the various problems besetting the State to the Union Home Minister.
He also urged the public not to impose any sort of bandh or strike during the Minister's two day visit.
