Imphal, August 03:
Different organizations have extended support to the 12-hour UCM sponsored general strike on August 5 demanding immediate and unconditional release of student leaders who have been imprisoned in connection with the territorial integrity movement.
The AMSU headquarters has disclosed in a release that it has instructed all its district committees, units, and branches to get prepared for the UCM-sponsored general strike on August 5 demanding immediate and unconditional release of 44 persons including 14 AMSU leaders who have been jailed in connection with the territorial integrity movement.
The AMSU release has condemned the slovenly role played by the state government stating that while the Central government itself has realized its grave mistake and reviewed the ceasefire extension agreement, the state government has not yet release the jailed AMSU leaders and others even though they and their legitimate movement have been vindicated by the Central government itself by backtracking.
It also appealed to all sections of the people to cooperate in the general strike.
The Kuki Students Organization, general headquarters, in a representation, urged the Governor to immediately release the jailed student leaders including AMSU president and general secretary.
Now though the government of India has withdrawn the ceasefire extension and the peace process is on, tension still runs deep in Manipur.
Here, the AMSU has a big role to play in order to restore trust, peace and harmony, and their continued detention is against peace, said the KSO president, Paokam Haokip, adding the failure to release them immediately will invite untoward incident for which the government itself will be responsible.
