Passenger train chugs into Tamenglong district

The first ever passenger train service till Vangaic-hungpao station in Tamenglong district set off on Friday around 11.30 am.
The train (Rajdhani Express) coming from Silchar (Assam) stopped briefly at Jiribam railway station where the railway officials accompanying the train along with local people honoured the train by singing the national anthem and unfurling of the tricolour flag.
The train then moved towards Vangaichungpao station in Tamenglong district, which is about 11 km from Jiribam town.
The flagging off event of the passenger train from Jiribam to Vangaichungpao station was attended by senior PRO NF Railway Nripen Bhattacharya, CDO Silchar Abdul Hakim, ADEN/BPG D K Kakati, ADEE/AGR S Das, AXEN/CON Jiribam D Bhaga-wati and JE/W/CON, Jiribam S Roy Choudhury.
According to senior PRO NF Railway Nripen Bhattacharya, formal inauguration of passenger train service between Silchar and Vangaichungpao will be done by the railway minister soon and this train service will surely benefit people of Manipur apart from enabling the state's denizens to travel to other parts of the country from Silchar.
He also said that construction for Vangaichungpao-Imphal rail line is going on, mainly tunnelling and hectic works are on to complete the longest tunnel near Imphal.
When asked about ILP by media persons, the railway official replied that the matter relates to state government but railways would take up necessary steps in consultation with higher authority based on steps initiated by state government.
