Khelchandra lecture

The 1st Pandit N Khelchandra Memorial Lecture was held today at State Central Library and Manipur State Archives, Keishampat under the aegis of the Manipur Historical Society.
The event was graced by former Education Minister Prof Gangmumei Kamei as chief guest and Manipur Historical President S Bheigya as functional president.
The even started with offering of floral tributes to photograph of Pandit Khelchandra.
Later retired Reader of History Department, Oriental College Dr M Kaoba gave a lecture on the topic 'Political condition of Manipur on the eve of the Seven Years Devastation'.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof Gangmumei Kamei said that it is a matter of pride for all Manipur that a scholar like Pandit Khelchandra took birth on the soil of Manipur.
Pandit Khelchandra was an erudite scholar.
He was an encyclopaedia and institution personified as far as the history of Manipur is concerned.
He was one historian who spoke and write based on documents and/or with enough sources.
A man like Pandit Khelchandra deserves annual commemoration with full honour, said Prof Gangmumei.
No efforts would be spared to ensure that the memorial lecture is held every year, said S Bheigya.
He further called upon interested writers to write a biography of Pandit Khelchandra for which Art and Culture Department or the Manipur Historical Society would take responsibility of publication.
