Customs seize brown sugar, police WY tablets

Imphal, July 30 2021:
Customs Division Imphal's Anti-Smuggling Unit seized brown sugar from a TATA truck at Mantripukhri point of NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road) on Thursday around 5:15 pm .
In a report, Customs Division superintendent (A/S) P Roben Singh informed that a team of the Anti-Smuggling Unit acting on specific information intercepted the TATA truck (NL01K-8678) driven by one Md Tamijur Rahaman (31), s/o Md Abdul Rahman from Paobitek Mayai Leikai under Wangoi police station at Mantripukhri and recovered 8550 gram of brown sugar concealed on the driver's backseat.
The drug was packed in 11 packets wrapped in adhesive tapes.
A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of NDPS Act, 1985 .
The smuggler has been arrested and the recovered brown sugar and vehicle have been seized.
The total value of the seized contraband drugs along with the truck is collectively found to be Rs 8.75 crore, mentioned the report, adding that further investigation to nab other offenders of the case is underway.
On the other hand, a police team comprising Imphal West SP Dr S Ibomcha, Imphal Police OC inspector N Ingocha and Imphal West SDPO Bidyapati Thingbaijam recovered 50,000 WY tablets from a TATA truck at Nityaipat Chuthek around 3:30 pm Friday.
According to a police report, the team intercepted the TATA truck (MN01-9985) for checking and consequently recovered three plastic packets containing WY tablets from the upper cabin of the vehicle and two more similar packets from behind the cabin.
Each plastic bag contained 10,000 WY tablets.
The driver identified as Md Hassan (46), s/o (L) Md Islamuddin of Sora Maning Leikai Irengband and second driver Md Nur Salam (23), s/o Md Abdul Salam of Sora Maning Leikai were arrested.
The police also seized the recovered drug and the vehicle.
A case has been registered by Imphal Police under the provisions of NDPS act 1985, the report said.
