Independent body to be set up for ensuring equal opportunity to all: Ibobi

The 127th Birth Anniversary of Indian National Congress (INC) was observed at the Congress Bhawan located along BT Road here today with Chief Minister O Ibobi as Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi said that in order to provide equal opportunities to all the different communities settling in the State, an independent body is to be established.
There would be representatives from all sections of the society in the proposed independent body which would be headed by a retired Justice as Chairman.
The Chief Minister stated that all the communities, big or small, need to get equal opportunities in every aspect.
With establishment of the independent body, it would be able to bring out the areas where certain communities are lagging behind and the necessary policy decision would be then taken up by the State Government for doing the needful for ensuring equal opportunities to all the communities.
He informed that the proposal for establishment of the proposed independent body would be brought up on the floor of the House in the next Assembly session.
This independent body would also enable all the communities in the State to live in peace.
Ibobi observed that the sacrifices made by the then leaders of Congress party need to be highlighted among the new generations of Congress workers since there might be a number of new recruits in the party who are not aware of the selfless sacrifices made by the great leaders.
The new generations should follow the footsteps of the then leaders, he exhorted.
The Chief Minister also explained to the gathering that Congress is a secular political party.
That is why no other political parties could rule the State peacefully with such ease and bring about so much development as the Congress party.
So, all the Congressmen should perform their own duties efficiently so as to strengthen the position of Congress in the State further.
Delivering the Presidential speech, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Home and at the same time is the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), recalled that last general election to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly was a war-like situation.
But in spite of that and even at the cost of their lives, the people of Manipur did not lost faith and elected Congress party to power with a landslide victory.
So, considering the sacrifices made by the people during the last election, the Congress, in a move to show respect and gratitude to all those who have lost their lives and sustained injuries during the hard times, have with shawls and citations to all.
Gaikhangam also asserted that there is not a single political party in the state and throughout the country, which has lived upto 127 years like Congress party.
This shows that Congress party is still loved and respected by all and this has been made possible because of the selfless sacrifices made by the then party leaders.
While appealing to the different sections of the society to think about the welfare of the State and to stop thinking about other people's business, Gaikhangam stated that "As Manipuris, we need to think about Manipur, live for Manipur and also die for Manipur", added "we should not encourage wrong doings of our near and dear ones but be bold enough to say that they are wrong" .
The function was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing, Congress MLAs and Ministers, members of Cells and Central organizations.
Along with hoisting of party flag, a two minutes silence was also observed as mark of respect to the departed souls of Congress workers.
