AAMSU calls on Assam CM

An eleven member delegate of the All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) yesterday called upon Assam's Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara and submitted a memorandum containing topics related to Manipuri cultural.
The delegate also drew attention of the Assam CM to elevate Manipuri language at par with the Assamese, Bengali and Boro languages to facilitate Manipuri diasporas settling in Assam since ages, to appear at APSC and other competitive exams, said a statement of AAMSU.
The student body, in the memorandum, urged the Assam Government to extend financial assistance to Assam Manipuri Kala Akademi, Silchar and help revival of Manipuri Classical Dance, Manipuri Folk Dance, Manipuri Nat-Sankirtan; reconstitution of Manipuri Development Council; construction of a Manipuri youth hostel cum auditorium in Guwahati and to set up a Manipuri Cultural Centre at Hojai to help preserve and promote the rich Manipuri culture etc.
A delegate of the student body also visited Minister Chandan Brahma at his official quarter at Dispur and sought assistance in resolving the language issue and in reconstituting the Manipuri Development Council, it said.
Notably, the student body has approached and met Assam's Education Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma; Assam's Chief Secretary, Kumar Sanjay Krishna; Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjay Lohiya and Principal Secretary (Personal) Niraj Verma and other officials earlier, to discuss about the ongoing language issue and its immediate solution, the statement continued.
