Imphal, April 27 2015 :
The banned Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) alleged that Manipur Congress leaders and top officials of the State Government had tried to underpin the 'colonial Government of India' in imposing its 'repressive rule' in Manipur by making false statements during the April 23 Khongjom Day 2015 celebration.
A statement by Roben Khuman, secretary, publicity & propaganda, RPF on Monday further said that Manipur lost its independence ever since the then Congress party plotted and conspired until Manipur was merged with the Indian Union in 1949 .
It said that many martyrs had sacrificed their life in the course of liberation movement and that this must not be taken flippantly as their deeds were meant for "our sovereignty" .
"Many battles we have encountered till date are continuation of Khongjom War (Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891), RPF claimed.
The outfit said that after the departure of the British it was replaced by the Government of India in Manipur and ever since a class collaboration started between the Manipur Congress and India.
It said the Congress forced Manipur to lose its sovereignty at the behest of leaders like Gandhi, Nehru and Patel.
It contended that the merger agreement of September 21 cannot be accepted as a real merger of Manipur with the Indian Union since a plebiscite or referendum was not held in this regard.
RPF called the agreement a 'forced annexation' of Manipur and continued arguing that the then Manipur Assembly did not give its consent to the so called merger agreement.
More to the point, the outfit recounted the "National Convention of Manipur Merger" organized by the people of Manipur in October 1993 agreed that there was no legal validity to accept the Merger Agreement of September 21, 1949 because in real sense it was nothing less than 'annexation' .
The RPF then appealed to the people not to trust the 'puppet Government' and its deceitful policy.
