KCP (MC) pays tributes to Irawat

The proscribed UG Group KCP (MC), on the occasion of Irawat Day which falls on September 30, paid tributes to the leader of Manipur who dedicated his life for the welfare and rights of the people of Manipur.
In a press release, KCP(MC) stated that Hijam Irawat played an important role in the Nupilan which occurred on December 12, 1939 and was imprisoned for three years by the then government for his role in Nupilan.
The first year of his imprisonment was spent Imphal Jail and later transferred to Sylhet Jail for the remaining two years.
After the term, he was barred from entering Manipur by the then government.
Residing in Silchar, he joined the Kishan Sabha and attended the first congress of Indian Communist which was held on May 23, 1943 as special invitee.
He was arrested again in 1944 for being an active member of Communist party and released in 1945, it added.
Later, in 1946 he formed the Manipur Praja Mandal and participated in the second congress of Indian Communist in 1948 which was held in Kolkata.
He contested the State Assembly election in 1948 as a candidate of Krishak Sabha and won the election.
He organized mass protest against the formation of a Purbanchal state on September 21, 1948 in which a policeman was killed in Pungdongbam incident.
Following the incident, the Manipur State Council announced Manipur Praja Mandal and Krishak Sabha as unlawful organizations.
After the incident, he formed an armed organization under the name Manipur Communist Party and its armed wing Red Guard Army on September 29, 1948 with an aim to bring a revolution in the then Manipur.
He breathed his last at a place in Myanmar on September 26, 1951, the release stated.
While appealing the people of the state to follow his footsteps for a free Manipur, the KCP (MC) stated that the party will live by the ideals of the departed leader and will take up certain actions in the forthcoming 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election to teach the imperialists who suck the blood of innocent people a lesson, it added.
Meanwhile, the Maoist Communist Party, Manipur today observed the 60th Death Anniversary of Hijam Irawat at the Central Head Quarter of the party by lowering down the party's flag half.
While cautioning the politicians to refrain from using the name of Irawat and not to misinterpret the revolutionary ideology of Irawat, a press release of the party stated that the party will look into the matter.
It further stated that Irawat took up arms for a free Manipur but nor for a state of India.
Asserting that many politicians are using his name and ideology to remain under the Indian Constitution, the party will take the matter seriously, it added.
It also appealed to the youths, students and all the people of the state not to participate in any Irawat Day functions organized by such political parties or their frontal organizations.
It also appealed to the people of the state to observe the Irawat Day and light candles at their gates in the night.
