Moreh, April 23 2011:
Amidst the strict crackdown of the state electricity department to bill defaulters and illegal consumers in order to address the present miserable situation of power supply in the state, two Myanmar hotels in Tamu neighbouring Moreh were found using state electricity illegally in broad daylight.
The two hotels situated near Moreh Gate No 1 on the other side of the international border have been using state power since the past six months.
The hotels sell tea, snacks, meals and cold drinks use TVs, fans and many other electrical appliances.
One of the hotels is named Matin Hotel.
Myanmar army and Immigration Officers posted near the hotels also use electricity from Manipur to charge their mobile phones and walky-talkie sets in the hotels.
Surprisingly the post of 31 AR, and the state warehouse are situated only 20 meters from the hotels and they do nothing regarding the matter turning a blind eye.
According to the local people of the area, they often cut down the wires to the hotels in the past whenever they found them using the power but it is always reconnected.
EE (Power), Sarat knows of the matter but has taken no action.
