Imphal, February 23 2015:
United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly reacted to BJP Manipur State Unit President Th.Chaoba's assurance on up-grading Sadar Hills into full fledged District if BJP comes to power after the next State Assembly Elections.
In a press note, UNC Information & Publicity Secretary S.Milan recalled that Chaoba gave the assurance while speaking at a one-day awareness cum mass enrollment programme of the BJP on February 19 at Henbung, Senapati District.
UNC said Chaoba's posture on the issue is a direct challenge to the four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) .
Pointing out that the BJP President's assurance totally disregarded peoples' political sentiments, UNC warned that "if anything goes out of proportion by such political agenda of incitement", Chaoba and BJP State Unit will be held responsible for any turn of events.
The council also reminded that the Sadar Hills issue caused division within tribal communities.
Many bandhs and blockades had been organized and even precious lives and properties lost in connection with the issue, reminded UNC.
The union said one needs not go into the details of the "pains and miseries" endured by the people.
UNC said Chaoba and his party should not forget the signing of the MoUs between the Government of Manipur and the Naga Civil Societies on December 14, 1981; November 10 1992; September 27, 1996 and June 23, 1998 in connection with Sadar Hills issue.
UNC pointed out that the Nagas seriously viewed the State BJP President's assurance and warned that the BJP should not forget the Government of India had also been directly involved in this sensitive issue in the recent past.
Since Chouba had opened the Pandora Box, he and BJP State Unit should be held solely responsible for any consequences and warned political parties, groups and individuals not to play the "communal card" by invoking the Sadar Hills issue and mixing the same with electoral politics.
It may be mentioned that Chaoba had assured Sadar Hills will be converted into a full-fledged revenue district if Bharatiya Janata Party forms a government in Manipur during the 'One Day Political Awareness Camp cum Enrolment Programme' held at Hendung Village, The BJP Manipur Unit president also urged the people of Hendung village to support BJP candidates in the ensuing district council election.
