Imphal, April 21 2020:
Noting that the lockdown period is a very challenging time for parents, RIMS Psychiatry Professor RK Lenin has remarked that it would be very crucial for parents to set good examples for their children.
Talking with The Sangai Express on the current lockdown and its possible impacts on the upbringing of children, Prof Lenin said that it would be quite beneficial if parents can make daily routine for their children and strictly enforce it.
The daily routine should have reading hours, entertainment breaks as well as time for playing, Prof Lenin said.
At the same time, parents should strive to be role models for their own children, he continued.
It would be quite helpful if the children are allowed to keep in touch with their friends/classmates through phone or WhatsApp.
Talking with children about different matters frankly without any inhibition would also help in inculcating good discipline, he opined.
He said that the lockdown should not be any excuse for going to bed late and rising late.
The daily routine of going to bed early should not be disturbed on account of the lockdown.
On the contrary, the lockdown period is a very good opportunity for teaching human values and the reality of life to young children, Prof Lenin said.
It is also very important to teach good manners and habit to children so that they do not become addicted to internet after the lockdown is lifted.
At the same time school authorities/teachers should prepare lesson plans in advance and identify the areas where more emphasis should be given, he added.
