KNSTKT Southern Union repairs Senapati-Phaibung road

Infuriated by the inaction of the Govt and from other sources to repair the road, KNSTKT Southern Union comprising clusterof 18 villages reportedly took the challenge upon themselves and repair the Senapati-Phaibung road which is about 135 kms long.
It may be mentioned that the 81 Battalion, BRTF started new cutting of the raod in the year 2002 and was black topped in the 2004-2005.Since then, no renovation/repairing work was reportedly done till date and no canal was also visible along the stretch due to lack of fund said a source from BRTF.
The stretch of the road covering 18 villages under Senapati district includes TNK, Senapati village, Angkailongdi, Sorbung, Ngatan, Taklung, Khamsom, Khamsom Hofii, Tingsong Khullen, Tingsong Centre, Tingsong Khunou, Ngamju, Ngamju Phungva, Khongdei Shimphung, Khongdei Ngawar, Khongdei Khuman, Kodom Khavii, Kodom Khullen, Lakhamai, Phaibung Khullen and Phaibung Khunou.
Though some villages are not yet covered by the road, the road is reportedly accessible till Tingsong villages at present for a stretch of about 85 kms.
The union of the ten villages recently took out to repair the road by taking some soft loans of Rs 2 lakh and with some generous contributions from people of the region.
The executives of the union reported that the expenses incurred for filling up the sand on the road and the total clearance from Zero Point, Senapati to 12 kms has reached more than Rs 3 lakh.
They mentioned that they had not received any help from the Government to repair the road which is mandatory after every monsoon season.
They also mentioned that they had been continuing the repair works since 2008-09 .
The BRTF had reportedly left the repairing work since 2010 citing zero fund.
It has been reported that around 15-20 taxi services covering the ten villages have been plying along the stretch daily while around 70-80 vehicles including big, medium and small ones usually ply along the stretch daily.
Different organic farms including banana, pineapple, tree beans, papaya, orange, lemon, kiwi and different tree saplings are also reportedly cultivated along the stretch.
Executives of the KNSTKT Southern Union, Senapati District said that it is not only their lifeline but also a passage to neighbouring district passing Somdal village to Ukhrul district headquarters.
They also pointed out that many major accidents had occurred at various places along the stretch due to worst condition of the road taking lives of many people in the past.
To this end, the executives of the KNSTKT Southern Union, Senapati District fervently appealed the concerned department, Minister, MLA, ADCs and the District Administration, Senapati, Govt of Manipur to look into the matter and take up necessary action in the interest of the general public.
