Police appeal people to refrain from bursting firecrackers amid COVID-19

City police along with volunteers of Red Cross Society carried out an awareness rally about the harmful effects by firecrackers in impending COVID-19 scenario today.
The awareness rally started at MG Avenue and covered all important roads of Imphal city before culminating at Shamu Makhong.
SDPO Imphal, Bidyapati Thingbaijam and Inspector Sudhir OC City Police Station led the rally.
The police personnel and volunteers of the Red Cross Society Imphal West district held placards displaying awareness about the harmful effects by firecrackers amid COVID-19 pandemic.
Firecrackers are banned considering the rising cases of COVID-19 in the State.
Increasing air pollution and harmful chemicals released by the firecrackers may prove hazardous for those who are suffering from COVID-19 as well as the recovered patients, said police.
Harmful chemical and air pollution may cause respiratory diseases like chronic or allergic bronchitis, bronchial asthma and pneumonia, they said and appealed people to refrain from bursting firecrackers during the festivals.
