Following the uproar at Guwahati against the Citizenship Amendment Bill and the indefinite curfew that has been imposed there and in many other towns and districts of Assam, travel agencies have suspended inter-State bus service since yesterday.
Chief Minister N Biren on being contacted, informed The Sangai Express that there are about 14 passenger vehicles which are currently stranded at Rengpeng, near Hojai in Assam.
The Chief Minister said that he has talked to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to ensure the security of the stranded passengers.
The DGP of Manipur has also talked to his Assam counterpart to ensure that no harm comes to the stranded passengers from Manipur.
Talking to The Sangai Express a representative of a travel agency said that a bus carrying passengers had to return from Dimapur yesterday after curfew was imposed at Guwahati.
He added that on an average 700/800 passengers daily travel to Guwahati and Shillong from Imphal.
Of this, buses carry about 400 passengers while taxi services carry the rest.
There are about 10/11 agencies operating on the Imphal-Guwahati route and on the Imphal to Shillong route, he added.
