JCILPS curfew on non-locals starts, crackdown on ILP activists continues

As declared earlier, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Students' Wing has clamped indefinite curfew on the non-locals from today in pursuance of its demands for implementation of ILP system in the State and suspension of Y Victoria, Addl SP (Traffic) who raided office of the committee.
Following the imposition of the indefinite curfew, all shops and other business establishments run by non-locals in all major markets including Khwairamband market here down their shutters.
However, some of the shops were forced open by the police.
Meanwhile, as the movement of the committee escalates, police pulled up 17 members of the committee including eight from DESAM, six from AMSU, two from KSA and one from SUK.
They were pulled up from the office of AMSU, rented offices and different parts of the city.
Amongst them, L Bullet; Rocky; L Bishwarjit; L Manoj; Naoba; Oinam Shital; Salam Akash; Pajesh; Manjit; Bijando and Sobhachandra, co-convener of JCILPS Students' Wing were included.
Police also took into custody six influential leaders of various women's organizations from Uripok area later this evening.
They are Ph Sakhi, president of AMKIL; Th Ramni, general secretary of Nupi Samaj; L Memchoubi, president of Poirei Leimarol; L Gyaneshori, general secretary of AMKIL; Ch Jamini, vice-president of Nupi Samaj and RK Guni, member of Poirei Leimarol.
Addressing a press meet following the development, M Anil Khuman, media co-ordinator of JCILPS Students' Wing said that the arrest of its members by police will not have any adverse affect on the ongoing movement for enforcement of ILP system in the State and informed that his parents namely M Angangjao and M Sobita were also pulled up by police from their residence at Sekta.
He stated that the committee has not committed any crime instead it has been launching a movement for implementation of ILP system which is the only possible means to safeguard existence of the indigenous people and demanded unconditional release of all the members arrested at the earliest.
Cautioning that the committee is well prepared to launch different forms of intense agitations other than the curfew clamped on non-locals if its demands are not met by the government within a short period, he appealed to all concerned who are employing non-locals and renting out rooms to confine them in their work places and living rooms till an understanding is brought about between the committee and government.
On the other hand, all the members of JCILPS who were arrested by the police yesterday have been charged with committing arson on government buildings at Bashikhong area.
The arrested JCILPS members including its Executive members Advocate P.Arjun, S Rajen and O.Premjit, Media sub-committee members Y.Thabi and Ch.
Sunil were produced before the court of CJM Imphal at 2 pm today.
According to O.Premjit, Imphal Police Commandoes arrested them around 4.30 pm while they were having a meeting.
However, the police alleged that they were arrested by Iribung police on charges of arson.
.SRajen, who was arrested from the residence of JCILPS convenor at Haobam Irom Leikai and kept at Imphal police station, disclosed that they were produced by the Irilbung Police and charged with arson.
