Wangoo Police and 39 AR rescue 20 dogs

A total of 20 dogs were rescued by a team of Wangoo police and 3 9 Assam Rifles while conducting frisking and checking of vebiclesnear Wangoo Mamang Sabal-Nongyaikhong Mapal on August 9 as a part of security measures in the run-up to Independence Day celebration, reports our correspondent.
As per to our correspondent, a police team led by ASI Hringkola Huten Anal of Wangoo Police Station under the supervision of SP Kakching Victoria Yengkhom and OC T Meuno of Wangoo Police Station and a team of 39 Assam Rifles B-Coy, Pangantabi led by Major I Iboyaima were conducting frisking and checking of vehicles near Wangoo Mamang Sabal-Nongyaikhong Mapal on August 9 in the evening as a part of security measure of Independence Day.
After an Eeco Van coming from Kakching Khunou was seen driving in a suspicious manner, the team stopped and search the vehicle and found about 20 dogs carrying inside a small iron cage in the most inhuman manner at around 7.30 pm.
On further questioning, the team learnt that the dogs were trafficking from Moreh for sale in Churachandpur by Tongkhochon Haokip (36) s/o Ht Doukholun of Tuibong, Zion Veng Churachanpur district following which Tongkhochon Haokip and the driver Anil Misla alias Anil Mishra were detained by the Wangoo Police.
The rescued dogs were handed over to State Animal Welfare Board Manipur later.
The arrested persons were produced before the Court of JMFC Thoubal and later released after charging Rs 10,000 for the maintenance and care of the dogs.
