First meeting of All Political Party Committee on ILP held

The All Political Party Committee which was constituted to look into the issue of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system today held its first meeting at the office chamber of Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam in Old Secretariat here.
The first meeting of the Committee was presided over by its chairman Gaikhangam.
Talking to reporters after the meeting which was held in the afternoon, Gaikhangam informed that the Speaker has approved the proposal of the Committee for setting up its office inside the complex of the Assembly Secretariat, Chingmeirong.
The Deputy CM further informed that the meeting discussed the need for seeking advice from legal experts on the demand for implementation of ILP system in the State and it was decided to request three legal experts from Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) and Gauhati High Court to submit their opinion and suggestions in writing on the viability of re-introducing ILP system in Manipur.
Gaikhangam assured that if the situation demands, the Committee will approach the Judges of Supreme Court of India to determine the feasibility of introduction of ILP in the state.
The Committee will also seek advice from the apex court Judges if a particular law can be enacted to protect the indigenous people, he further assured.
He said the meeting also deliberated on safeguarding the territory of Manipur and its indigenous people and promised that the Committee will discuss the issue with the agitating public too.
