State Cabinet condemns Rio's hate speech

Taking strong exception to the alleged 'hate speech' of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who describes his Manipur counterpart O Ibobi Singh as one of the biggest enemies of the Nagas while addressing an election rally at Zunheboto on February 6, a meeting of the State Cabinet today resolved to convey a message to the Ministry of Home Affairs as well as to the Election Commission of India in this regard.
The State Cabinet expressed apprehension about the adverse impact of such irresponsible hate speech on the inter-state and inter-ethnic relations as well as on the communal harmony in the region and decided that the state Home Department should convey the state Government's concern to Ministry of Home Affairs and Election Commission of India for necessary advice to Neiphiu Rio from uttering such inflammatory remarks in the larger public interest in future.
Among other agendas which were discussed, the Cabinet meeting which was held with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in the chair at the Chief Minister's Secretariat here this afternoon gave its approval to declaration of three State Highways into National Highways by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The three newly upgrated National Highways are NH-102 B, which starts from Churachandpur on NH-2 connecting Singhat, Sinzawal, Tuivai road and terminating at Myanmar road in the state, NH-102 A, the highway starting from Tadubi on NH-2 connecting Paomata and terminating at Ukhrul on NH-202 and NH-137, the highway starting from Rengpang on NH-37, Khongsang and terminating at Tamenglong.
The Cabinet meeting also approved recruitment of 44 Section Officers (SOs) in Public Works Department (PWD), which would also be entrusted with the works related to extension of railway line to Imphal.
Furthermore, the State Cabinet approved to pay land compensation to the land owners of the NH-53 where rail line is being developed, to revise the pay of work-charged employees in five Engineering Departments, to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) given to the State Government employees to 65 percent from the present 58 percent and appointment of nine contract staff under National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme.
Today's Cabinet meeting has also given its nod to payment of Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia and a suitable Government job to the family of Laishram Ibohanbi, a head Constable in Manipur Police, who was found dead at Finch Corner in Ukhrul district on January 3 .
The Cabinet also discussed issues related to improvement in the existing Public Distribution System (PDS) and necessary instructions have been given to the Deputy Commissioners concerned.
