Responsibility on VDFs shifted from SPs to DGP

In a major decision of the State government, the State Cabinet in its meeting held today decided to rest the right to terminate VDF personnel from their service in the event of finding them acting against the law while performing duty in maintaining law and order to the Director General of Police (DGP).
Earlier, the responsibility to terminate VDF personnel from their services was shouldered by the respective SPs of the district concerned.
According to information received in connection with the Cabinet meeting, the decision to entrust the DGP with the right to terminate the defaulting VDF personnel from their service was taken after taking into account of the inconveniences faced by SPs in performing the task.
In addition to this, today's Cabinet meeting has also approved extension of the service of VDF personnel by one year.
Among other agendas taken up for discussion, the Cabinet has also resolved to appoint 79 specialist doctors as Officer Grade II in Bishnupur and Thoubal District Hospital and creation of 41 posts of Block Development Officer (BDO) for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj to facilitate the 100-day working scheme under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Guarantee Scheme, sources informed.
However, no new employee will be recruited for the said posts but they will be filled up from existing employees of the department by promoting them, sources added.
Today's Cabinet meeting also discussed the issue of shortage of teachers in Jiribam very seriously and decided to come up with an announcement on appointment of candidates who have cleared TET to fill the vacant posts of teachers in Jiribam very soon.
Accordingly, the Education Minister has appealed to the agitating students' bodies in Jiribam to call off their agitation.
