Imphal, January 07 2015:
Against the backdrop of rampant cases of exploitation of children from the State in New Delhi, Manipur Student Association Delhi (MSAD) has urged the parents concerned to contact the students' body before sending their wards.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, MSAD secretary Rajiv said, "Some of the poor parents were promised that their children will be sent to school in the capital and would be nurtured by middle-class families.
However, they end up being used as domestic servants.
Many have managed to escape but their whereabouts remain unknown till date" .
MSAD general secretary Andy Yumnam said many youngsters who come to the capital for studying have become victims of substance abuse and become the cause of unwanted incidents.
Pointing out the easy availability of N-ten, SP capsule and other intoxicants in pharmacies in the National capital, MSAD general secretary Andy Yumnam said that many youngsters who go to Delhi to pursue further studies have become victims of substance abuse.
He further stated that MSAD will launch a drive to inspect the students and to prevent any unwanted incident.
To make the drive a success, he urged the civil society organisations to extend co-operation.
Case findings will be conducted and after obtaining concrete evidence, parents will be informed about the matter.
Appealing to the parents to co-operate in the drive, Andy Yumnam said that in case parents concerned fail to turn up or reciprocate, MSAD will publish the details of the particular student along with the parents' names and addresses.
