Imphal, May 05 2012:
If at all JNIMS is to provide sufficient amount of blood to the people of the state, at least 7000 units of blood is needed on a yearly basis.
This was stated by Dr S Ibomcha of JNIMS on the occasion of a blood donation camp held at Khagemba Club, Kyamgei Mayai Leikai today.
The blood donation camp was jointly organised by Kanglei Agro Business Service and JNIMS Blood Bank.
He explained that for an individual person to donate blood, he/she has to be between the age group of 18 to 60 years.
However, if an individual suffers from any sort of disease like diabetes, asthma and hypertension, etc, he/she should abstain from donating blood at all cost.
Dr Ibomcha pointed out that normally people in Manipur lack awareness about the significance of donating blood.
As a result, there are very less voluntary blood donors in the state.
Even the families of patients requiring blood themselves hesitated from donating blood for their own patients and they bring in third persons as blood donors by paying them certain amount of money.
MLA of Keirao A/C Thamarjit also took part in the blood donation camp.
