An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook India's north-eastern states in the wee hour of Friday, officials said.
The quack that shook the region including Manipur was the fourth tremor in the past three weeks.
The earthquake, with its epicentre on the borders of the Indian states of Manipur and Nagaland with Myanmar, occurred at 01:21 am today (1951 GMT Thursday), the Meteorological Department source said.
According to news agencies� reports, the quake shook houses and buildings in Manipur and Nagaland and was felt in the neighbouringstates of Assam and Tripura as well as Myanmar.
However, there has been no report of damage or casualties from the quake that lasted for around 10 seconds.It was the fourth moderate quake in the region since August 11.Indian scientists are said to have predicted that a major earthquake could hit the region soon.
India's seven north-eastern states of Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh are situated in a main earthquake zone.
Assam experienced one of India's worst earthquakes, measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale, in 1897, killing 1,600 people.
