Huge quantity of expired, contaminated edible food items destroyed at Kpi DHQs

Contaminated, expired food items without manufacturing and expiry date were destroyed for the first time in Kangpokpi DHQs today following strict instruction of DC Kangpokpi.
A preliminary drive was conducted in the morning today from 10.30 am to 12 noon after strict directive was issued by DC Kangpokpi Dr Rangitabali Waikhom (IAS) to inspect shops and godown in Kangpokpi DHQs which deals with selling and storage of consumer items as a measure for quality maintenance.
The inspection was led by Joel G Haokip (MCS) Addl District Magistrate accompanied by two Executive Magistrates from DC Office including Kaigoulal Kipgen (MCS) and A Subol Singh in convergence with Kangpokpi Police, Food Safety Officer, Kangpokpi and the local civil bodies including Kangpokpi Youth Union.
Huge quantity of more than 50 different edible items including packaged expired food items, imported edible items without manufacturing and expiry date, illegal measuring weights were seized from various shops and godown in Kangpokpi DHQs during the drive.
The seized items worth Rs 50,000 approximately were razed down after producing before the District Magistrate at DC office Complex in the presence of Executive Magistrate, Food Safety Officer and the local civil bodies represented by Kangpokpi Youth Union at around 2 pm.
The District Administration has initiated the progressive movement under the guidelines of Food Safety & Standard Authority of India, Food Safety Act 2006 and Food Safety Rules and Regulations, 2011.According to Joel G Haokip (MCS), Addl District Magistrate, the inspection drive conducted in the morning was a preliminary check and it will be continued in the district with a motive to maintain quality on food items and appealed the people of Kangpokpi to cooperate with the District Administration in eliminating expired, contaminated and imported food items without manufacturing and expiry date.
The District Administration has also instructed all shops in Kangpokpi DHQs not to sell such expired, contaminated and imported foods items in future considering the health hazard of the items to the people.
The local civil bodies appreciated the District Administration for the progressive movement in cleaning out such food items which can be a health hazard for the people while assuring to extend maximum cooperation and support towards the District Administration in its progressive movement.
