Imphal, January 25 2010:
After 187 days, the Shradh rituals of Thokchom Ongbi Rabina, who killed in the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar firing incident, was performed at her Lamshang residence today.
According to tradition of Manipuri Vaishnavs, the Shradh is normally performed on the 13th day from the day of demise of a person.
However, as the incident and circumstances in which Rabina was killed resulted in widespread protest and a State issue, the Shradh of Rabina was performed after 187 days today.
At the time of her death, Rabina was in advanced stage of pregnancy.
The life of the yet to be born child in her womb too had been snubbed away by the bullet that killed Rabina right in front of the eyes of her 2-year old son Rashell.

Besides, Rabina, one more person, a former UG cadre identified as Chungkham Sanjit was also killed while five other persons sustained bullet injuries in the incident.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup, the JACs formed in protest against the killing of Rabina and Sanjit as well as three student bodies namely AMSU, MSF and KSA launched a series of agitation.
Even all the educational institutions remained shut down for nearly four months following a class boycott call in protest.
Even if the rites and rituals due to every departed soul for its peaceful repose in the heavenly abode have been performed at last for Rabina as well, the pang of separation and the cries for justice run deep in the heart of her husband Chinglenkhomba and her father-in-law Damu.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Damu said, 'Though the Shradh of my daughter-in-law is being performed today so that her departed soul can rest in peace, the anguished in the heart of the family members would remain until the punishment of the killers''.
He further said, ''When my grandson Rashell cries for his mother, we can not bear it''.
Unaware of all that is happening around him, little Rashell was seen innocently sleeping in the Mandop where the Shradh ceremony of his mother was being performed.
