Imphal, February 24 2016:
Volunteers of Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) and Founder Parents' Committee ofUripok Tondonsana High School staged a sit-in-protest against setting up of Ramkrishna Mission School at the complex ofthe school at Uripok today.
The protesters demanded the Government to save the academic year of 300 students of Uripok Tondonsana High School.
UNAL convenor Loteeka Lourembam said that the sit-in-protest was staged after they learned that Ramkrishna Mission School would be inaugurated at the campus of Uripok Tondonsana High School soon.
She rejected the claim and media reports that all the students of Uripok Tondonsana High School have been shifted to a Government aided school at Lamboikhongnangkhong.
This school is neither a residential institute nor it has required number of classrooms and infrastructure to accommodate all the students of Uripok Tondonsana High School, she said.
Saying that Uripok Tondonsana High School has a residential section having around 100 students, Loteeka questioned where these students would go now.
Around 86 students of Upper Primary section of Uripok Tondonsana High School have neither come to the school nor admitted at Lamboikhongnangkhong school.
As such, they are on the verge of losing their academic year, she said.
She alleged that setting up of Ramkrishna Mission School is nothing but an effort of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Education Minister M Okendro and local MLA Nandakumar to earn personal wealth.
