Imphal, August 23 2013 :
Veteran Communist leader AB Bardhan has said that former Minister Dr M Nara is most likely to be fielded as a candidate of Communist Party of India (CPI) from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the coming Lok Sabha Election.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest of the 66th foundation day of CPI Manipur State Council held at Irabot Memorial Hall, Challou in Imphal East today.
AB Bardhan further said that he had met with the leaders of various political parties in the State and they have given firm assurance of rendering support to Dr Nara.
The State Council has also sent a proposal for Dr Nara's candidature to the national leaders and quite hopeful for getting the proposal accepted, he noted.
The Communist leader contended that Manipur needs an MP like Dr Nara who can voice for the State at the Parliament.
The incumbent Congress MPs of the State always remain "dumb" at the Parliament with no concern for the issues of the State.
Dr Nara could garner more than two lakhs votes in the last Lok Sabha Election.
The CPI hopes for Nara's victory this time with full support from the people, he averred.
AB Bardhan lamented that the Congress-led UPA Government has been apathetic to the State's issues.
The Government works only for a section of people by encouraging rampant corruption and nepotism as evident in several multi-crore scams that have rocked the nation, he maintained.
The Congress Government both at the Centre and State are indifferent to the issues of the State pertaining illegal taxation along National Highways, threat to territorial integrity, Indo-Myanmar border issues and imposition of AFSPA leading to gross human rights violation.
Moreover, the UPA Government has failed in core economic policies of the country.
The nation is facing high inflation coupled with devaluation of money.
The whole affairs of the Congress regime is in a murky state with corrupt people favoured by the Congress Party accumulating wealth and rising up in the country, the Communist leader stated.
The foundation day was also attended by Secretary of CPI Manipur State Council Dr M Nara, ex-Minister N Mangi and other functionaries of CPI Manipur State Council.
