Imphal, July 23 2020:
Director of Agriculture Laltanpuii Vanchhong has stated that a sufficient quantity of fertilizer is available in the State.
In a statement, L Vanchhong said that the Department of Agriculture, through the concerned District Agriculture Officer(s) and their field staff have been distributing fertilizer directly to the farmers since June 16.Stating that the said distribution is carried out even on all general holidays including Sundays by maintaining social distancing norms, the Director claimed that at least 50-60 farmers turned up to take fertilizers daily, since the past week especially in Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.
There is no question of needy farmers of Heirok, Wangjing, Khangabok, Thoubal, Lamlai, Wangkhem, Mayang Imphal, Andro, Sekmai, Konthoujam and Lamshang being left and dry, said Vanchhong and alleged that all genuine farmers are very much aware that urea fertilizer is being distributed daily in their respective district headquarters.
He also stated that even the patta less farmers are given urea fertilizer as per modalities developed by the department.
Continuing that the department is actively monitoring the distribution of urea fertilizer at the district level by taking a daily report, the Agri Director added that the number of farmers turning up for urea fertilizer is declining as expected.
He then said that the allegation that urea is being distributed only on the table and never reach the needy farmers is 'completely' false and preposterous.
If any genuine and needy farmers are left out, they may contact S Jugeshwor Singh, Assistant Fertilizer Officer (mobile number 8258979104), Vanchhong informed.
