Noney, June 23 2018:
Chairman of Sangrung (Khongsang) Village Authority, Nungba Sub-Division, Noney, in a statement on Saturday urged the concerned authorities to consult the village authority for identification of suitable places for proposed muck disposal sites within the village.
The village authority has also condemned the concerned authorities for identifying two spots, mentioned as 'site No 6 and 7' in a report filed by an enquiry team led by the SDO Tamenglong, as land under the jurisdiction of Namkaolong village.
The land in question was once 'apportioned' to the Chief of erstwhile Tingjang village for 'cultivation' purposes by the 'Khunbu' (Chief) of Khongsang village on the condition that the land will be 'returned' to Khongsang village in the event Tingjang village 'deserted' the land/its village, asserted the statement of the chairman of the Village authority.
The agreement between the two villages was well recorded and the district administration Tamenglong has the relevant documents, the statement said.
The Tingjang village was deserted following a Naga-Kuki ethnic clash in 1994 .
Subsequently, as agreed by the authorities of the two villages, the Chief of Tingjang village had 'willingly and peacefully' returned the land back to the Khongsang (Sangrung) village without use of any 'force or coercion from any quarter', added the statement.
The Chairman of Khongsang appealed the concerned authority to 'rectify the mistake immediately' and consult the village authority for identification of possible and suitable spots for the proposed muck disposal sites.
The selection of the sites should not compromise the 'fragile ecological balance and water sources', said the chairman.
The village authority will not comply and cooperate with the concerned authorities if the mistake is not rectify and it (village authority) is not consulted in identifying the suitable spots for the muck disposal sites at the earliest.
The concerned authorities should bear the sole responsibility for any untoward incident arise out of the problem, warned the chairman.
