Ukhrul post office likely to be upgraded

Ukhrul, November 22 2016:
The increasing number of cash deposit at Ukhrul Post office post the announcement of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 note has increased the possibility of upgrading Ukhrul Post Office to Mukhiya Dakghar (MGD) .
Once upgraded, the post office will be linked with core banking facilities where transactions can done like nationalised banks.
The office will be computerised and customers will get satisfactory service, the post master stated.
According to the post master, there has been abnormal increase in cash deposit since PM Modi announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on November 8.Earlier, hardly Rs 20,000 cash were deposited in the post office but, it rose up to an average of Rs 2 lakh daily.
He further cited the problems of cash exchange and withdrawal as the office faces acute shortage of low currency notes, our correspondent reports.
